Out and about with the Leica M240

Had to hand back the Leica M, or M240 if you like, Interfoto Norge was kind enough to lend me. The rangefinder camera may not be for everybody, but I have to admit that I quite like the simplicity of it. You basically have focus and exposure to play with. The rest is up to you. I admit that the focusing takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it it is quite intuitive.

Sand and Water

As I was looking for something to shoot along a small stream I came across these patterns created by the meandering water and the sand on the river bed. The main source for this stream is a glacier, and the different colours come about as the layers of sand from different rock types is moved around by the water.

Experimenting with Colours

Reading a book on modern photography I came across a work that inspired me to experiment a little. The image was a montage of several black and white images of the same object from slightly different angles, each image as a translucent layer in the final image. So I thought why not do this with a colour image, but using the colour channels rather than the image itself to create a new image. And this is the result.

By Accident

Without the ripples on the surface of the water focusing the sunlight into the lines running across the frame this image would have been less interesting. It happened by chance as I stepped into the water at the edge of the puddle looking through the viewfinder of my camera. Without that I probably would not have bothered to take the shot at all.
